Tenkara Introduction:
Tenkara fly fishing (Japanese: テンカラ釣り, literally: "fishing from heaven", or "fishing from the skies" or "from empty sky" as kara = empty and ten = sky ) is a simple type of fishing practiced in Japan.
Tenkara fishing can be seen as a streamlined counterpart to western fly-fishing. The equipment is designed to direct focus to the actual fishing and catching of the fish, not to cause a major preoccupation with the equipment. Only a rod, tenkara line and fly are necessary for tenkara fishing (no reel is used).
PERFECT for STREAMS and RIVERS- Designed for smooth casting and good backbone. Great fun for catching small wild trout and also doable for larger fish. Both level line and tapered line is workable for casting. Great choice for hiker and backpacker
